Offensive lineman Tony Washington was named to the 2009 American Football Coaches Association NCAA Division II All-American team on Tuesday.

Washington was one of only two Lone Star Conference players selected, joining West Texas A&M defensive end Eugene Sims on the team. The 6-foot-7 senior from New Orleans was also named LSC Offensive Lineman of the Year earlier this season, and is a finalist for the 2009 Gene Upshaw Division II Lineman of the Year Award, given to the top offensive tackle in NCAA Division II.

Washington played a major role as the ACU offensive line helped create holes for the Lone Star Conference’s second ranked rushing attack. ACU backs averaged more than 170 yards per game in 2009 while scoring 24 touchdowns.

He will represent ACU in the 85th annual East-West Shrine Game on Jan. 23 at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando.
