ACU alum to play local piano concert

September 2, 2011 by David Singer

This Friday, students have a chance to hear a piano recital by ACU alum Mario Santoso.

A classical pianist, Santoso can often been found playing pieces by Chopin, Bach, Rachmaninoff, Mozart and Beethoven.

Born in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, Santoso attended Yayasan Pendidikan music school in 1999. Soon after graduating he was awarded a full music scholarship to Abilene Christian University.

Under the direction of Gustavo Tolosa, Santoso continued to study piano at ACU and in 2004 graduated cum laude.

Santoso went on to Indiana University where he received the dean’s scholarship while earning a Masters in Music.

In 2006, Santoso became the Head of the Music Department at Universitas Pelita Harapan Music Conservatory in Indonesia.

Now, Santoso is working towards his doctorate at West Virginia University.

Students and faculty can attend the one hour performance free of charge Friday at 7:30 p.m. in the Williams Performing Arts Center Recital Hall.
